Painting in Progress and a Surprise Gift from a Blog Friend

detail of WIP
16 x 20 inch oil on paper

On Tuesday I returned to Brian Hinkle's art class at Tessera Fine Art Gallery and jumped right in starting this 16 x 20 inch oil on paper.  Using one of my sketches as inspiration, the figures went down quickly.  There will be birds in this piece once it is all said and done.

Here is a full view of the piece.  You can see another oil painting in the background which I have shown recently.  That one is slow-going because I have been really indecisive about color.

Hurley

I caught this shot the other night of my dog Hurley.  He has so many facial expressions and this one is precious.  Kind of pitiful, but precious.

Hurley

Speaking of Hurley, do you remember the above photo?  I posted it a while back.

5 x 7 inch painting of Hurley
by Patty Musgrove
Well a couple of days ago I was surprised and so touched to receive the above painting from Patty Musgrove with Listen to the Road.  Patty paints the most beautiful animal portraits and I could not believe she would give me such a gift.  Tears.  Many of them.  Thank you so much Patty.  Life is sad right now after losing my mom and this gift is so joyful and uplifting.

Please click on the photo to view her beautiful brush strokes.  She captured him perfectly.

Have a nice weekend everyone.

    1. Thank you Patty. Yes drawing into the paint adds a lot of interest I think. It would work well for animal hair!

      LOVE my painting. LOVE.

  9. Lisa, I love all your WIPs! A blogger once sent me a painting of my Giovanni as a puppy after I posted about losing him. I still hurt for the loss. So glad someone did the same for you. An artist's heart is a fine thing. Also so saddened to hear you lost your mom. A fate that awaits all of us, I know. You have my deepest sympathies.

We drove through a really pretty portion of Illinois just last week on our road trip to NY. So many trees and beautiful farms!

  15. So sorry for your loss. No wonder your faces in your painting look so sad, as does Hurley. But how wonderful to receive the gift from Patty! She does such nice work, I know because she sent me a small painting of my laughing dog, Sierra. Blogging friends are so generous. Take care.

  16. I really like your latest painting. If only I could draw and paint like that. Seems I just throw paint around on a page. BUT, I mentioned you when I signed up for Leslie's paintings. Not sure why it was so important to sign up, especially since we were supposed to give our home address.

Sunday morning I saw your comment about Bradley Fair. I had completely forgotten about it, thinking it was next weekend. So I immediately called my friend Sally and she said lets go. Lets go NOW. I still had to shower, so we got there about 11:30. It was a lovely morning, but got hot later in the day. I took over 300 photos in the 3 1/2 hours or so we were there. Sally bought lots of jewelry and tried to rush me along when I looked at paintings and mixed media pieces. Did you go? Afterwards, we ate at Angela's in our neighborhood. I got home about 5:30 and crashed.

  19. The painting on the easel is looking like it will be a masterpiece when birds are added. So much symbolism. You are sounding upbeat and settling back into painting.
Aw...sweet Hurley and what a generous and loving gift from Patty ,and then reading the comments I see she also had sent one to Sherry of Crimson Leaves. What a special spirit and understanding.
